The Q-5L Fantan was one of the most advanced versions of China's Nanchang Q-5 attack aircraft. Developed for the People's Liberation Army Air Force, the Q-5L incorporated modern avionics and night-attack systems, including FLIR and low-light television sensors mounted in the nose, allowing effective operations in all weather and lighting conditions. Additional upgrades included a head-up display, GPS and inertial navigation systems, electronic countermeasures, and the ability to employ precision-guided munitions such as the LS-500J laser-guided glide bomb. The Q-5L served exclusively with Chinese air force units and represented the final evolution of the Fantan before the aircraft's retirement from PLAAF service in 2017.

Operators

The only confirmed operator of the Q-5L was the People's Liberation Army Air Force (China). It served in PLAAF attack aviation units until the gradual retirement of the Q-5 family during the 2010s, with the type leaving frontline Chinese service in 2017.
