The Mitsubishi Ki-67 "Peggy" was a versatile, high-performance Imperial Japanese Army twin-engine medium bomber used from late 1944 to 1945, primarily for torpedo bombing, level bombing, and suicide missions. It saw action against Allied fleets in the Formosa, Ryukyu Islands, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa campaigns, as well as missions in China and against U.S. bases in the Marianas.

Key Operational Areas and Roles:

  • Formosa (Taiwan) & Ryukyu Islands: The Ki-67 made its combat debut in October 1944, acting as a torpedo bomber against the US Third Fleet.
  • Okinawa & Iwo Jima: Used extensively as both a conventional medium bomber and a torpedo carrier during the Allied landings.
  • Kamikaze Attacks: In the final stages of the war, modified Ki-67s (known as To-Gō or Sakura-dan) were used as, or converted into, suicide planes, carrying two 800 kg bombs.
  • Regional Operations: Deployed in mainland China, French Indochina, and Karafuto.
  • Special Missions: Certain versions were planned for long-range, one-way, ground-strike missions against B-29 bases in Saipan and Tinian.

Known officially by the Japanese Army as the Type 4 Heavy Bomber, it was praised for its speed and agility, and was also employed in smaller numbers by the Japanese Navy.
