From $2.68Price

The Messerschmitt Me 262 B was a two-seat trainer (B-1a) and night fighter (B-1a/U1) variant used by the German Luftwaffe in the final months of World War II, primarily around the Berlin area in early 1945. These aircraft were deployed for defense against Allied bombers.

  • Night Fighter Use: Approximately 15 trainer models were converted to night fighters equipped with FuG 218 Neptune radar, flown in early 1945 by units such as Kommando Welter.
  • Operational Role: The B-1a/U1 served as an interceptor in the air defense of Berlin.
  • Training Role: The B-1a served as a two-seat trainer to help pilots transition to the high-speed jet, which was crucial due to the challenging handling of the engine, notes Forgotten Hope Secret Weapon Wiki.
  • Post-War/Capture: Several Me 262B models were captured, such as Wnr 110639 "White 35" which was taken at Schleswig, and were tested by the United States and other Allied forces in 1945 and 1946.
