Messerschmitt Bf-110 G4 night fighter

PriceFrom $6.50

The Messerschmitt Bf 110 G-4 was used primarily as the Luftwaffe's principal radar-equipped night fighter to defend the German Reich from Allied bombing raids during the later years of World War II, specifically from 1943 to 1945. It operated extensively over occupied Europe and Germany, targeting British Lancaster bombers and American aircraft.

Key Operational Details:

  • Primary Role: Dedicated night interceptor (Nachtjäger) equipped with radar (e.g., FuG 202/220 Lichtenstein) to detect Allied bombers.
  • Main Theatres: Defense of the German Reich (Germany, Belgium, Netherlands).
  • Operational Era: The G-4 variant was dominant from 1943 onwards.
  • Key Personnel: Top night fighter ace Heinz-Wolfgang Schnaufer operated the Bf 110 (including G-4) to achieve 121 victories.
  • Weaponry: Often equipped with upward-firing Schräge Musik cannons to attack bombers from below.

While earlier Bf 110 variants saw service in Poland, France, and North Africa, the G-4 was specifically refined for the nocturnal air-defense battle against the RAF Bomber Command and USAAF.
