The Shenyang J-6 (NATO reporting name: Farmer) was the Chinese-built version of the Soviet MiG-19, and it became one of the most widely exported Chinese fighter aircraft of the Cold War. More than 3,000 were built, and it served across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
 
Major Operators
China
Operated extensively by the People's Liberation Army Air Force and People's Liberation Army Naval Air Force from the 1960s through the 1990s.
At its peak, over 40 PLAAF regiments flew the type.
Southeast Asia
Vietnam – Used during the Vietnam War against U.S. aircraft; North Vietnam received dozens of J-6s from China.
Cambodia – Small number supplied by China.
South Asia
Pakistan – One of the largest foreign operators. The export version, designated F-6, served from the 1960s until 2002 and saw combat in the 1971 and 1999 conflicts with India.
Bangladesh – Operated F-6 fighters after independence.
Middle East
Egypt – Large fleet acquired in the late 1970s and 1980s.
Iran – Operated F-6s during the Iran-Iraq War.
Iraq – Received aircraft through Egypt and Jordan.
Africa
Somalia
Sudan
Tanzania
Zambia
Uganda (reported operator)
Europe
Albania – Operated large numbers of F-6s from the 1960s until retirement in 2005.
Korea
North Korea – Still maintains a number of F-6 aircraft, making it one of the last significant operators.

Interesting Fact
Although retired from frontline Chinese service decades ago, China has reportedly converted hundreds of retired J-6s into unmanned attack drones (designated J-6W), some of which have been observed at bases near the Taiwan Strait.
