The Chengdu J-10B "Vigorous Dragon" was used primarily by the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) of China. The J-10B was an improved version of the earlier J-10A, featuring a redesigned intake, modernized avionics, an infrared search-and-track (IRST) sensor, and advanced radar systems. It entered service in the early 2010s and equipped several front-line PLAAF fighter brigades before many units later transitioned to the more advanced J-10C variant.
 
The J-10B served throughout China in roles including:
Air superiority and air defense missions
Interception of hostile aircraft
Escort duties
Precision strike operations
Training and operational conversion to newer J-10 variants
 
Unlike the export-oriented J-10CE/J-10C, the J-10B was operated exclusively by the PLAAF and was not exported to foreign air forces. Pakistan became the first foreign operator of the later J-10C/CE variant, not the J-10B.
 
The Chengdu J-10B "Vigorous Dragon" was a significantly upgraded version of China's indigenous J-10 multirole fighter. Entering service with the People's Liberation Army Air Force, the J-10B introduced advanced avionics, an infrared search-and-track system, improved radar, and a redesigned supersonic air intake that enhanced overall performance. The aircraft served with front-line PLAAF fighter units across China, performing air defense, interception, escort, and strike missions. The J-10B represented an important step in the modernization of Chinese air power and served as the direct predecessor to the more capable J-10C variant that followed.
