The Fiat G.55 Centauro was primarily used as a high-altitude interceptor by the Italian Regia Aeronautica and later the Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana (ANR) from 1943 to 1945. Considered Italy's best fighter of WWII, it was used to defend Northern Italy against Allied bombers and fighters, with some service in the Mediterranean. Post-war, it was used by Italy, Argentina, Egypt, and Syria.
