The Grumman F9F-2 Panther was primarily used by the US Navy and Marine Corps as their main carrier-based fighter and ground-attack aircraft during the Korean War (1950–1953). It was also operated by the Argentine Navy.

- Korean War Action: The F9F-2 logged over 78,000 sorties, providing close air support and interdiction missions.
- Combat Firsts: It was the first Navy jet to engage in combat (July 3, 1950) and achieved the first Navy jet-to-jet air-to-air kill.
- Carriers and Bases: Operated from carriers like the USS Valley Forge (CV-45), USS Leyte (CV-32), and USS Boxer (CVA 21), as well as land bases in Korea such as K-3 (Pohang).
- Famous Pilots: Flown by future astronauts John Glenn and Neil Armstrong.
- Argentine Usage: The Argentine Navy utilized them, with some participating in a 1963 revolt.
