F-86K Sabre Dog export

From $3.68Price

The F-86K Sabre Dog, an all-weather export version of the F-86D, was primarily used by NATO and allied nations during the Cold War in the late 1950s and 1960s. Key operators included West Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Honduras, and Venezuela, with production in the U.S. and Italy.

Key Locations and Operators of the F-86K:

  • West Germany: Operated by the German Air Force (Jagdgeschwader 75/74) starting in 1957.
  • Italy: Produced by Fiat and operated by the Italian Air Force.
  • France: Used by the French Air Force, specifically in EC 1/13 "Artois," EC 2/13 "Alpes," and EC 3/13 "Auvergne" Squadrons.
  • Other European Operators: The Royal Netherlands Air Force and Royal Norwegian Air Force.
  • Honduras & Venezuela: Served in South/Central America, with Honduras acquiring jets from Venezuela in 1970.

Unlike the F-86D variant, the F-86K was generally not used by the United States Air Force itself, but rather was produced specifically for export. It was a radar-equipped interceptor designed to operate in all weather conditions, often armed with 20mm cannons, and was active through the late 1960s, with some serving into the 1970s.
