The Israeli Air Force (IAF) F-4 Kurnass ("Hammer") was a primary strike fighter used from 1969 to 2004 in major Middle Eastern conflicts, including the War of Attrition, Yom Kippur War, and Lebanon War. It was deployed for air superiority, deep-strike bombing, and reconnaissance against Egypt, Syria, and Lebanon.

Key details regarding the usage of the IAF F-4 Kurnass:

  • Major Conflicts: The jet was heavily involved in the War of Attrition (1967–1970), the Yom Kippur War (1973), and operations in Lebanon.
  • Operational Roles: It was used for air-to-air combat, air-to-ground bombing, reconnaissance, and suppression of enemy air defenses (SEAD).
  • Upgrades: Later in its service, the modernized Kurnass 2000 variant was used for precision air-to-ground strikes throughout the 1990s.
  • Squadrons: The 201 Squadron ("The One") was the first to operate it, followed by others like the 107 "Knights of the Orange Tail" squadron.
  • Retirement: The fleet was officially retired in 2004.
