The Vought F4U-5 Corsair was the final propeller-driven fighter produced for the U.S. Navy and is widely considered the peak of the Corsair family in terms of flight performance. First flying in December 1945, it was a post-WWII refinement designed to bridge the gap between late-war piston engines and early jet technology.
