PriceFrom $8.71

The B-24G Liberator, a variant of the Consolidated B-24, was primarily used by the U.S. Army Air Forces in the Mediterranean and European Theaters during World War II, specifically with the 15th Air Force for long-range bombing missions. Produced by North American Aviation, G-models often featured a nose turret, enhancing their defensive capabilities in intense combat.

Key Locations and Uses:

  • Mediterranean Theater: Served extensively with the 15th Air Force, conducting raids from bases in Italy and North Africa, including crucial missions against oil refineries in Ploesti, Romania.
  • European Theater: Employed by the 8th Air Force for strategic bombing raids over Germany and occupied Europe.
  • Combat Characteristics: The B-24G, like other Liberators, was used for long-range, high-altitude bombing, often replacing or complementing the B-17 in hazardous missions.
  • Captured Examples: Some B-24G aircraft were captured and used for testing or, in rare cases, by Axis forces.

The B-24 series overall was used in every theater of World War II, including the Pacific and for anti-submarine warfare in the Atlantic.
