Historical Context
No. 426 Squadron was formed in Britain in October 1942 and became part of No. 6 (RCAF) Group. After operating Wellingtons and Lancaster IIs, it converted to Halifax IIIs in 1944 and continued the strategic bombing campaign through the final year of the war. No. 78 Squadron served throughout the war with Bomber Command and became one of No. 4 Group's established Halifax units, flying major night operations against targets in Germany and occupied Europe.
