The F-16A Block 10 Fighting Falcon was primarily used by the US Air Force (USAF) starting around 1980–1981, particularly with the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing at Hill AFB. It was operated by several NATO nations (Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands, Norway) and exported to countries including Pakistan and Israel. Recently, former Danish Block 10s were transferred to the Argentine Air Force.
Key Uses and Deployments:
- Operational Service: Used extensively by the USAF (e.g., 8th Tactical Fighter Wing, 56th Tactical Training Wing) throughout the 1980s and early 1990s before being moved to Air National Guard units or storage.
- Close Air Support (CAS): In the early 1990s, 24 Block 10 F-16As were modified to carry the 30mm "Pave Claw" cannon pod for specialized CAS roles within the New York Air National Guard.
- International Roles: Operated by European NATO partners and widely exported.
- Recent Transfers: Ex-Danish F-16A Block 10s were sold to Argentina, with the first delivered in 2024–2025.
The Block 10 is recognized as a lightweight day fighter, largely used for air superiority and early multirole duties before the widespread, later introduction of "big tail" Block 15 variants.
