The Aermacchi MB-326 was a widely used Italian military jet trainer and light attack aircraft. It saw service with over a dozen air forces worldwide. Notably, it was built under license in Australia, Brazil, and South Africa.
The aircraft was predominantly used across the globe in the following key regions and roles:
- Australia: The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and Royal Australian Navy operated 97 license-built MB-326H models for pilot training and lead-in fighter roles from 1967 through the early 2000s. They were also used by the RAAF Roulettes and Telstars aerobatic display teams.
- Brazil: Brazil was the largest export customer, using the aircraft extensively for training and ground support. They were built locally under license as the AT-26 Xavante.
- Italy: The Italian Air Force introduced the MB-326 in 1962, using it as a foundational and lead-in jet trainer before phasing it out in 2010.
- Other Operators: The MB-326 was used by several additional nations across four continents, including Argentina, Tunisia, Ghana, Zaire, Togo, and Dubai.
