Historical Information
HMS Ocean (R68) was built by Alexander Stephen & Sons and commissioned on 8 August 1945, too late for combat in World War II. She became important in postwar naval aviation: in December 1945 a de Havilland Sea Vampire made the first carrier landing by a purely jet-powered aircraft aboard Ocean; she later served during the Korean War and supported the helicopter assault at Port Said during the 1956 Suez Crisis.
