Historical Information
Zuiho and Shoho were light carriers converted from auxiliary hulls as Japan expanded its carrier strength before and during the opening of the Pacific War. Zuiho was converted from the submarine tender Takasaki and entered carrier service in 1940, while Shoho was converted from Tsurugizaki and commissioned as a carrier in early 1942.
