Historical Information
Ryuho was converted from the submarine tender Taigei at Yokosuka Naval Arsenal and commissioned as a light aircraft carrier in 1942. Her service included aircraft transport, training, and fleet operations, although damage and Japan's declining carrier-air capability limited her offensive employment.
 
Key Historical Details:
Builder / Commissioning: Converted at Yokosuka from the submarine tender Taigei and commissioned as a carrier in 1942.
Entry into Service: Entered wartime carrier service in late 1942 and was soon damaged by submarine attack, requiring repairs.
Major Campaigns: Central Pacific transport missions and the Battle of the Philippine Sea.
Notable Operations: Used for aircraft ferrying, training, and limited fleet-carrier duties as Japan's air strength declined.
Combat Service: Participated in late-war carrier operations but was never employed as heavily as the prewar fleet carriers.
Fate / Postwar Disposition: Survived the war in damaged condition and was scrapped in the immediate postwar period.
