These 1-600 Burkina Faso & Mali Agacher Strip War Christmas War decals provide aircraft markings for Burkina Faso and Mali in the December 1985 Christmas War campaign setting.

Decal Information

The sheet provides Burkina Faso & Mali Agacher Strip War Christmas War markings for 1-600 scale aircraft miniatures.

The sheet includes roundels and assorted bort numbers for both nations' MiG aircraft, plus Burkina Faso fin flashes. The numbers and fin flashes are intentionally larger than true scale on a MiG-21 and are sized to fit Tumbling Dice castings. This set was designed for Nick Jones's Merry Christmas, Mr Sankara campaign.

They are printed on clear-background waterslide decal paper. They need to be individually cut out. Apply over a properly prepared and gloss-coated model surface using normal waterslide-decal techniques.

Historical Information

The Agacher Strip War, also known as the Christmas War, was fought by Burkina Faso and Mali from 25 to 30 December 1985. The dispute concerned a stretch of their shared border in northern Burkina Faso and brought two neighboring West African states into a brief armed conflict.

Aircraft supported the fighting alongside ground forces. Mali employed combat aircraft in attacks during the dispute, illustrating the importance of even relatively small air arms in regional warfare. The conflict belongs to the wider history of Cold War military aviation in post-independence West Africa.

This decal set was designed specifically to support Nick Jones's Merry Christmas, Mr Sankara wargaming campaign. Its combination of national roundels, aircraft identification numbers and Burkina Faso fin flashes allows the opposing forces to be distinguished on the tabletop.

The campaign setting and the decal sheet's stated design purpose should be distinguished from a claim that every included number appeared on a particular wartime aircraft. Use dated aircraft photographs for historical builds; the enlarged numbers and fin flashes are a deliberate feature of this 1-600 gaming set.
