Historical Information
This decal set represents the distinctive Singapore Air Defense Command and early Republic of Singapore Air Force roundel built around a stylized 'S' and yin-yang motif. It bridges the period between Singapore's first post-independence aircraft markings and the Lion Head roundel adopted in 1990.
When the Singapore Air Defense Command formed in 1968 it initially used a modified RAF-derived roundel. In 1974 a new insignia based on a public competition was adopted: a yin-yang symbol within a stylized 'S'. The marking continued in service as Singapore's air arm matured and the RSAF was formally established.
This roundel is especially associated with Singapore's first-generation combat and training aircraft of the 1970s and 1980s, before the Lion Head became the standard national aircraft marking.
Representative Aircraft: Hawker Hunter, BAC Strikemaster, A-4 Skyhawk, F-5E/F Tiger II, C-130 Hercules and other early RSAF aircraft.
Use this marking for the 1974-1990 period. Earlier SADC aircraft and post-1990 RSAF aircraft carried different national insignia, so check the exact aircraft and year before application.
