Historical Context
No. 7 Squadron was the first RAF squadron to become operational with the Short Stirling and flew the type's first bombing missions in February 1941. In 1942 it joined the Pathfinder Force before later converting to Lancasters. No. 75 (New Zealand) Squadron was another major Stirling operator and represented the important New Zealand contribution to Bomber Command, flying extensive night operations with the type before moving on to Lancasters.
