Historical Information

The checkerboard was formally adopted in 1918 and has identified Polish military aircraft through the interwar era, World War II, the Cold War, and the modern period.

The basic checkerboard endured while orientation and standardization changed over time, including a color-order reversal in the early 1990s.

These markings are suitable for fighters, bombers, reconnaissance aircraft, transports, trainers, and helicopters and are particularly appropriate for multiple eras of Polish aviation.

Match the checkerboard orientation on the sheet to the specific aircraft and date represented.
