This decal set provides historically accurate markings for B-29 Superfortresses of the 509th Bomber Wing at 1-300 scale.
Historical Context
The wartime unit associated with the Enola Gay was the 509th Composite Group, not yet the later 509th Bomb Wing. Formed specifically for the atomic mission, the group trained with specially modified Silverplate B-29 Superfortresses and deployed to North Field on Tinian in 1945. The Enola Gay, serial 44-86292, flew the Hiroshima mission on August 6, 1945 under Col. Paul W. Tibbets. To disguise the 509th’s special status, its B-29s temporarily carried tail markings borrowed from other Twentieth Air Force groups; Enola Gay carried the 6th Bomb Group’s Circle-R marking for the mission.
