Historical Context
The 701st Bombardment Squadron served with the 445th Bombardment Group, flying B-24 Liberators with the Eighth Air Force from RAF Tibenham in Norfolk, England. The group conducted strategic bombing operations against industrial, transportation and military targets throughout occupied Europe and Germany.
The 445th is particularly remembered for the severe losses suffered during the Kassel mission of September 27, 1944. Like other Second Air Division Liberator groups, its aircraft carried increasingly conspicuous recognition markings that helped crews form up and distinguish neighboring bomber units during large-scale operations.
This sheet represents the 701st Bombardment Squadron's high-visibility markings for later-war B-24 Liberator models.
Please Note: U.S. Star & Bar roundels are not included with this sheet and must be purchased separately.
