Historical Context

The 704th Bombardment Squadron was one of the original squadrons of the 446th Bombardment Group, the "Bungay Buckaroos," which flew B-24 Liberators with the Eighth Air Force from RAF Flixton near Bungay, England. The group entered combat in late 1943 and continued operations through the end of the war in Europe.

The 704th used the fuselage code FL. Early-war aircraft carried more subdued camouflage and identification markings than the bold high-visibility tail treatments seen later in the campaign, making this sheet appropriate for the group's earlier operational appearance.

The 446th later took part in major operations across Europe, including support for the Normandy invasion and the wider strategic bombing campaign against German industry, transportation and military targets.

Please Note: U.S. Star & Bar roundels are not included with this sheet and must be purchased separately.
