Historical Context

The 565th Bombardment Squadron served with the 389th Bombardment Group, an Eighth Air Force B-24 Liberator unit based at RAF Hethel in Norfolk, England. The group entered combat in 1943 and became one of the Liberator organizations temporarily detached to North Africa for operations against the Axis oil industry.

Aircraft of the 389th participated in the famous August 1943 Ploesti oil-refinery raid before the group returned to England and continued the strategic bombing campaign over Europe. Early olive-drab finishes and the evolving squadron identification system make the 565th a distinctive subject for early-war B-24 models.

This decal sheet is intended to reproduce the 565th Bombardment Squadron's earlier wartime markings on 1-300 scale Liberators.

Please Note: U.S. Star & Bar roundels are not included with this sheet and must be purchased separately.
