Historical Information
1-300 Australia Modern Low Visibility Mid Grey Roundels
This decal set reproduces a mid-grey low-visibility version of the Royal Australian Air Force kangaroo roundel for modern tactical aircraft. The subdued monochrome treatment preserves the instantly recognizable kangaroo emblem while reducing contrast against contemporary grey camouflage.
The kangaroo roundel became the RAAF's distinctive national aircraft marking in 1956. Later operational requirements led to reduced-visibility versions in grey and other subdued tones, particularly on combat aircraft and support types finished in low-contrast tactical schemes.
Mid-grey markings are useful for later RAAF aircraft where national insignia are intentionally restrained rather than displayed in traditional red, white and blue. Marking size and shade can differ between aircraft, units and repaint cycles.
Representative Aircraft: F/A-18A/B Hornet, F/A-18F Super Hornet, EA-18G Growler, C-17A Globemaster III, C-130J Hercules and other modern RAAF types.
For the most accurate result, compare the decal placement and grey tone with photographs of the exact aircraft being modeled, as low-visibility insignia have varied by type and period.
