Historical Information
Aquila was the Regia Marina’s most advanced World War II aircraft-carrier project. The passenger liner Roma was selected for conversion, and work progressed substantially before the Italian armistice in September 1943. Although the ship approached completion and incorporated a full flight deck, hangar, catapults, and a planned naval air group, Aquila never entered operational service.
