Historical Background

The Vickers F.B.5 Gunbus was one of the earliest aircraft designed specifically for aerial combat.

Its pusher-engine arrangement placed the gunner in the front cockpit with an unobstructed forward field of fire. In February 1915, No. 11 Squadron RFC became the first squadron formed specifically as a fighter unit when it was equipped with the F.B.5.
