Historical Information
Commissioning: USS Windham Bay (CVE-92) was a Casablanca-class escort aircraft carrier built by Kaiser Shipbuilding Company at Vancouver, Washington, and commissioned on 3 May 1944.
Major Campaigns & Notable Operations: Served primarily as an aviation logistics and transport carrier, supplying replacement aircraft and personnel to forward bases and carrier forces, including support connected with the Iwo Jima campaign.
Combat Service: Her wartime contribution centered on maintaining the flow of aircraft and trained personnel to the fast carriers rather than sustained direct combat operations.
Ultimate Fate / Postwar Disposition: Decommissioned in August 1946, recommissioned in 1950 for aircraft transport service, decommissioned again in 1959, and sold for scrap in 1960.
The deck treatment represented by this decal reflects the faded grey-blue appearance of weathered wartime flight-deck stain.
