Historical Information
Commissioning: USS Tulagi (CVE-72) was a Casablanca-class escort aircraft carrier built by Kaiser Shipbuilding Company at Vancouver, Washington, and commissioned on 21 December 1943.
Major Campaigns & Notable Operations: After ferry duty she supported Operation Dragoon in southern France, then transferred to the Pacific for the Lingayen, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa campaigns.
Combat Service: Her aircraft struck German positions during the invasion of southern France and later flew close-support, antisubmarine, and combat-air-patrol missions in the Philippines, at Iwo Jima, and off Okinawa.
Ultimate Fate / Postwar Disposition: Decommissioned in April 1946 and struck from the Navy list in May 1946.
