Historical Information

Commissioning: USS Takanis Bay (CVE-89) was a Casablanca-class escort aircraft carrier built by Kaiser Shipbuilding Company at Vancouver, Washington, and commissioned on 15 April 1944.

Major Campaigns & Notable Operations: Served mainly as a carrier-qualification training ship off the U.S. West Coast rather than as a front-line combat carrier.

Combat Service: Her flight deck trained and qualified thousands of Navy and Marine aviators for carrier operations; she later supported Operation Magic Carpet by returning servicemen from the Pacific.

Ultimate Fate / Postwar Disposition: Decommissioned in May 1946, remained in reserve, and was sold for scrap in 1960.

The deck treatment represented by this decal reflects the faded grey-blue appearance of weathered wartime flight-deck stain.
