Historical Information

Commissioning: USS Sitkoh Bay (CVE-86) was a Casablanca-class escort aircraft carrier built by Kaiser Shipbuilding Company at Vancouver, Washington, and commissioned on 28 March 1944.

Major Campaigns & Notable Operations: Spent much of the war shuttling aircraft, pilots, and aircrew between rear bases and front-line carrier forces and supporting Third Fleet replenishment operations.

Combat Service: Although primarily a logistics carrier, she operated in forward areas where her antiaircraft guns and combat air patrol engaged enemy aircraft; after Japan's surrender she supported Third Fleet occupation operations off Honshu.

Ultimate Fate / Postwar Disposition: Decommissioned in November 1946, recommissioned from 1950 to 1954 for transport service, and sold for scrap in 1960.

The deck treatment represented by this decal reflects the faded grey-blue appearance of weathered wartime flight-deck stain.
