Historical Information
Commissioning: USS Petrof Bay (CVE-80) was a Casablanca-class escort aircraft carrier built by Kaiser Shipbuilding Company at Vancouver, Washington, and commissioned on 18 February 1944.
Major Campaigns & Notable Operations: Supported Peleliu, the Leyte campaign with Taffy 1, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa as U.S. forces advanced toward Japan.
Combat Service: Her aircraft attacked Japanese ships and shore positions during the Philippines campaign and later flew close-support, patrol, and spotting missions at Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
Ultimate Fate / Postwar Disposition: Placed in reserve after the war, later stricken from the Naval Vessel Register, and sold for scrap in 1959.
