Historical Information
Commissioning: USS Natoma Bay (CVE-62) was a Casablanca-class escort aircraft carrier built by Kaiser Shipbuilding Company at Vancouver, Washington, and commissioned on 14 October 1943.
Major Campaigns & Notable Operations: Took part in operations in the Marshalls, against Kavieng and Rabaul, at Aitape and Hollandia, and in the Philippines, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa campaigns.
Combat Service: She served with the escort-carrier forces supporting Leyte and later provided intensive close air support. On 7 June 1945 a kamikaze struck the flight deck during the Okinawa campaign, but the ship remained afloat and operational.
Ultimate Fate / Postwar Disposition: Decommissioned in May 1946, remained in reserve, and was sold for scrap in 1959.
The deck treatment represented by this decal reflects the faded grey-blue appearance of weathered wartime flight-deck stain.
