Historical Information
Commissioning: USS Munda (CVE-104) was a Casablanca-class escort aircraft carrier built by Kaiser Shipbuilding Company at Vancouver, Washington, and commissioned on 8 July 1944.
Major Campaigns & Notable Operations: Performed aircraft and personnel transport duties and later joined the Third Fleet logistics group supplying Task Force 38 during the final attacks on Japan, followed by occupation duty in Tokyo Bay and Magic Carpet voyages.
Combat Service: Her wartime contribution centered on aviation logistics, carrying replacement aircraft, pilots, and supplies to sustain the fast carriers during the closing offensive against the Japanese home islands.
Ultimate Fate / Postwar Disposition: Placed in reserve after the war, later stricken from the Naval Vessel Register in 1958, and sold for scrap in 1960.
