USS Matanikau (CVE-101) Faded MS Grey Deck — 1-2400 Scale Deck Decal
Historically accurate 1-2400 scale aircraft carrier deck decal representing USS Matanikau (CVE-101) in the Faded MS Grey Deck configuration.
Historical Information
Commissioning: USS Matanikau (CVE-101) was a Casablanca-class escort aircraft carrier built by Kaiser Shipbuilding Company at Vancouver, Washington, and commissioned on 24 June 1944.
Major Campaigns & Notable Operations: After an early ferry voyage to the South Pacific, she spent most of the war as a carrier-qualification ship off San Diego and later supported the occupation of northern Japan and postwar movements to China.
Combat Service: Her principal wartime contribution was training: between January and June 1945 alone she qualified more than 1,300 naval and Marine aviators in carrier landings.
Ultimate Fate / Postwar Disposition: Decommissioned in October 1946, later reclassified for helicopter and aircraft-ferry roles while in reserve, and sold in 1960.
The deck treatment represented by this decal reflects the faded grey-blue appearance of weathered wartime flight-deck stain.
