Historical Information
Commissioning: USS Lunga Point (CVE-94) was a Casablanca-class escort aircraft carrier built by Kaiser Shipbuilding Company at Vancouver, Washington, and commissioned on 14 May 1944.
Major Campaigns & Notable Operations: Supported the Lingayen Gulf invasion, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and later minesweeping and occupation operations as the Pacific war moved toward Japan.
Combat Service: She fought through repeated enemy air attacks at Lingayen. Off Iwo Jima on 21 February 1945 she helped repel a major kamikaze attack that sank Bismarck Sea, suffering only minor damage while shooting down enemy aircraft.
Ultimate Fate / Postwar Disposition: Decommissioned in October 1946 and sold for scrap in 1960.
