Historical Information
Commissioning: USS Liscome Bay (CVE-56) was a Casablanca-class escort aircraft carrier built by Kaiser Shipbuilding Company at Vancouver, Washington, and commissioned on 7 August 1943.
Major Campaigns & Notable Operations: Entered combat during Operation Galvanic, supporting the November 1943 invasion of Makin in the Gilbert Islands.
Combat Service: On 24 November 1943, while operating southeast of Makin, she was torpedoed by Japanese submarine I-175. The resulting magazine explosion sank the carrier with the loss of 646 officers and men.
Ultimate Fate / Postwar Disposition: Lost in action on 24 November 1943; 272 survivors were rescued.
The deck treatment represented by this decal reflects the faded grey-blue appearance of weathered wartime flight-deck stain.
