Historical Information

Commissioning: USS Kwajalein (CVE-98) was a Casablanca-class escort aircraft carrier built by Kaiser Shipbuilding Company at Vancouver, Washington, and commissioned on 7 June 1944.

Major Campaigns & Notable Operations: Served chiefly as an aircraft transport and replenishment carrier, moving air groups and replacement aircraft across the Pacific and supporting the fast-carrier logistics system during the Philippines and final campaigns against Japan.

Combat Service: Her front-line value was logistical; she also survived the severe December 1944 typhoon that battered Third Fleet support forces and damaged numerous ships and aircraft.

Ultimate Fate / Postwar Disposition: Decommissioned in August 1946, remained in reserve, and was sold for scrap in 1961.

The deck treatment represented by this decal reflects the faded grey-blue appearance of weathered wartime flight-deck stain.
