Historical Information

USS Kula Gulf (CVE-108) was laid down by Todd-Pacific Shipyards at Tacoma, Washington, completed at Portland, Oregon, and commissioned on 12 May 1945. After shakedown and night-carrier training she sailed for the western Pacific, but arrived at Leyte Gulf after Japan had surrendered; she then patrolled the East China Sea, ferried aircraft, and carried returning veterans during Operation Magic Carpet. Recommissioned in 1951, Kula Gulf became an important Atlantic Fleet training and antisubmarine-warfare carrier and later served as an aircraft ferry supporting U.S. operations in Vietnam. She was struck from the Naval Vessel Register in 1970 and later disposed of for scrap.
