Historical Information
Commissioning: USS Kitkun Bay (CVE-71) was a Casablanca-class escort aircraft carrier built by Kaiser Shipbuilding Company at Vancouver, Washington, and commissioned on 15 December 1943.
Major Campaigns & Notable Operations: Supported the Marianas and Philippines campaigns, including operations off Leyte with Taffy 3, and later the Lingayen Gulf landings.
Combat Service: She fought through the Battle off Samar on 25 October 1944 and later suffered kamikaze damage during the Lingayen operation in January 1945, returning to service after repairs.
Ultimate Fate / Postwar Disposition: Decommissioned in April 1946 and sold for scrap in November 1946.
The deck treatment represented by this decal reflects the dark MS Blue flight-deck stain used by the U.S. Navy during World War II.
