Historical Information
The USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) is the seventh ship of the Nimitz class. Built by Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, she was commissioned on December 9, 1995 and named for U.S. Senator John C. Stennis of Mississippi.
John C. Stennis made her first major deployment to the Persian Gulf in 1998, flying missions in support of Operation Southern Watch. Later deployments supported Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, while repeated Western Pacific and Arabian Sea operations demonstrated the carrier’s global reach. In 2021 she entered Newport News Shipbuilding for her midlife Refueling and Complex Overhaul.
