Historical Information
The Independence variant is the trimaran design of the U.S. Navy Littoral Combat Ship program. Its broad flight deck, large mission bay, shallow draft, and modular mission systems support surface warfare, mine countermeasures, aviation, and maritime-security missions. USS Independence (LCS-2) entered service in 2010, and nineteen Independence-variant ships were built.
