Major Campaigns & Notable Operations: Operated in the Atlantic as the center of a highly successful hunter-killer group tasked with locating and destroying German U-boats threatening Allied shipping.
Combat Service: Her most famous action came on 4 June 1944 when her group forced U-505 to the surface and captured the submarine and its code material, the first U.S. Navy capture of an enemy warship at sea since the War of 1812.
Ultimate Fate / Postwar Disposition: Decommissioned in July 1946, later stricken from the Naval Vessel Register, and sold for scrap in 1959.
