Historical Information
USS Gilbert Islands (CVE-107) was built by Todd-Pacific Shipyards at Tacoma, Washington, and commissioned on 5 February 1945. During the final months of World War II she operated in the western Pacific, launching strikes against Japanese targets and supporting the Australian landings at Balikpapan, Borneo, before helping cover fleet replenishment and occupation operations near Japan.
