Historical Information
The USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77) is the tenth and final ship of the Nimitz class. Built by Northrop Grumman Newport News, she was commissioned on January 10, 2009 and named for the 41st President of the United States, a decorated World War II naval aviator.
George H.W. Bush supported Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation New Dawn during her first deployment. In 2013 she hosted historic carrier trials of the X-47B unmanned combat air-system demonstrator, including the first arrested landing by an unmanned aircraft aboard an aircraft carrier. Her later service included combat operations against the Islamic State during Operation Inherent Resolve and NATO assurance and deterrence deployments in European waters.
