Historical Information
The Freedom variant is the monohull design of the U.S. Navy Littoral Combat Ship program. Designed for high speed, shallow draft, and modular mission packages, the ships were intended for surface warfare, mine countermeasures, maritime security, and other littoral missions. USS Freedom (LCS-1) entered service in 2008, and sixteen Freedom-variant hulls were built.
