Historical Information
Commissioning: USS Fanshaw Bay (CVE-70) was a Casablanca-class escort aircraft carrier built by Kaiser Shipbuilding Company at Vancouver, Washington, and commissioned on 9 December 1943.
Major Campaigns & Notable Operations: Supported the Marianas campaign and later the Leyte invasion as flagship of Taffy 3, then continued operations connected with the Philippines and Okinawa campaigns.
Combat Service: At the Battle off Samar she operated under intense Japanese surface gunfire while her aircraft attacked battleships, cruisers, and destroyers threatening the invasion force; she sustained battle damage but survived.
Ultimate Fate / Postwar Disposition: Decommissioned in August 1946 and sold for scrap in 1960.
The deck treatment represented by this decal reflects the dark MS Blue flight-deck stain used by the U.S. Navy during World War II.
