The USS Enterprise (CV-6) was a Yorktown-class aircraft carrier commissioned on May 12, 1938. One of three ships in her class, Enterprise became one of the most celebrated U.S. Navy warships of World War II.
 
Enterprise served throughout the Pacific War, participating in the Doolittle Raid, Midway, Guadalcanal, the Philippine Sea, Leyte Gulf, and operations against Japan. Her air groups included fighters, dive bombers, and torpedo bombers, with the exact complement changing as aircraft types and operational requirements evolved.
